The Red Wedding Bouqet
The long white gown and red wedding bouquet. It's how every young girl imagines their wedding day. Red is the color of love, passion and desire, and red rose flowers symbolize the most important three little words in life, "I love you". The contrast between the pure white dress and deep red blooms just screams romance.
So often, white flowers held against a white dress are difficult to see, even in professional wedding photos, whereas a bold red is always easily picked out. But, if your gown isn't white or ivory then don't worry, a red wedding bouquet will go with nearly every color of wedding gown possible. As well as complimenting a white or ivory wedding gown, a red wedding bouquet will look stunning set against more unusual colors, such as a striking black winter dress, or hot summer pinks and oranges. Even if you are not going to be wearing a gown, a red wedding bouquet can be equally at home teamed with a stylish tailored suit.
A traditional red rose bouquet with a twist
If you want to bring your wedding flowers up-to-date, you can still have a traditional bouquet red rose wedding, but with a stunning contemporary twist. Ask your florist to style your red roses into a fabulous pomander. These ball, or oval, shaped designs look lovely draped over a bride's arm with a deep red satin handle; and your bridesmaids can carry smaller versions with a mixture of red and cream roses. To complete the look, have your flower girls throw beautiful red rose flowers from pretty baskets.
Other red flower choices for fabulous wedding bouquets
For taller brides, five or six deep red calla lilies, their long stems tied with natural raffia, suit a full-length, fitted wedding gown. For brides who are not so tall, a smaller cascading style of bouquet will work well for you. Cascading bouquets work beautifully with small headed roses and trailing foliage. For something more unusual go for a teardrop bouquet of red carnations mixed with sprays of red honeysuckle and bear grass hoops, this not only looks gorgeous, but it also smells heavenly. And, if you are having a spring wedding, there is nothing more seasonal than a bouquet of fresh red tulips.
Exotic red wedding bouquets
For something more exotic, go for tropical heliconia and anthuriums arranged with grasses and a stem of twisted green bamboo. These long lasting red flowers will look great for days. Or, for something more oriental, choose red orchids for dramatic impact. And, although it sounds like a more traditional choice, a full bouquet of frilly-edged red anemones, with their jet black eyes, look great set against strong colored wedding gowns.
You can't go wrong with a red wedding bouquet. Red will suit all shades and colors of gown, and the variety and choice of red flowers means that all shapes and styles of bouquet designs can be accommodated.
